What are you good at? Eating Cheeto's? Ya, me too. However, I hate to be the one to have to tell you this, but that's not actually a much desired skill. You may want to expand to something worthwhile. So that's what this is all about.
Here's the deal. Most kids spend 18 years doing a bunch of nothing. They go to a school that teaches them nothing. Graduate from said school, not being able to do anything. So they go to college where they drop 100k, come out, and still can't do anything. So they end up with a job they hate, no skills, and a bunch of debt. Sound familiar?
So what can you do? Get really good at something. Anything really. Whatever it is you are called to do, get great at it. Even the Youtube bloggers found a way to create a living making really good content. They get book deals, advertisements and all sorts of stuff walking around with a camera all day. That said, for every success, there's thousands of failures. Sure, it's a bit of luck, but it's also time and skill. They've mastered their craft.
There's no shortcuts to this either. There's only time and intensity. You have to put the work in, make mistakes, get mad, and get back to it. Whatever it is you're trying to be great at is going to hurt. Athletes train, and train, and train, and get injured, and train some more. It's what they do. And they are great at it. I suck at throwing basketballs into hoops. I have no desire to get good at it either, but NBA players make millions doing it. They've mastered their craft.
Mediocrity is a killer. And it's an epidemic in our society. We aren't doing a good enough job in our homes, and in our society to raise people with real skills. We've settled for less. So if this is you, pick something and commit to it. And if you are skilled, awesome! Either way, don't settle for mediocrity in your life. It's not the soldiers way.
