5 Distractions that Hold You Back

Dudes, what are you doing? Seriously, what are you doing? Alright, let's get this over with.

The world is full of distractions. Seriously, so many. As men, we need to be disciplined enough in our lives to get our mission done. So here, I'm going to break down 5 distractions in our lives:

5. Entertainment

Do you obsess over Star Wars? Or Marvel? How about that TV show? No, well then, sports! Got you! Chances are, this is a distraction in your life. What's the percentage of your time, energy, money going into your entertainment? If you're thinking by now too much, you need to do something about it. People use entertainment as a means of escape, which can be healthy when needed in moderation. But the obsession I've seen with this is at the level of dangerous. So ask yourself if you've been too engaged in entertainment lately.

4. Social Media

Thankfully, this one isn't for me, as I still can't figure out Facebook. But it may be for you. Wake up with a phone in your hand, and Facebook on it? You may have a problem. Lose track of 2 hours in the evening scrolling through those funnies? You can't get time back. It may be time to set some parameters. Like no Facebook from 9-5 or something. And no Social Media on the Sabbath!

3. Shopping

I know this is a guys channel, and guys don't shop, but I know I've lost track of time scrolling the latest in tac gear, and outdoor equipment. Amazon's dangerous like that. I like to call it research, but sometimes it goes from research to mind numbing hour and I can't find the line. So do your research, and get your gear, but don't let it turn into an hour of laziness.

2. Work

What? How can work be on here? Easy, when you use it as a distraction from your other responsibilities like raising your kids, or spending time with your wife, or working out, or cleaning your house, or whatever. If you find yourself using work as an excuse to get out of your other obligations you're doing it wrong. Man up, and get that stuff done. It's not going anywhere.

1. Day Dreaming

Visualization is a good thing. Day Dreaming, however, is not. What's the difference? Easy, visualization is a tool that is used to see yourself doing something before you do it. Day dreaming is imagining something that's never going to happen. One's grounded in reality, and the other in fantasy. Not only are you wasting your time day dreaming, but you'll actually psych yourself out, and get upset over your real life.

There's 5 things to think about. One could probably argue anything that distracts from God is idolatry, and they'd probably be right. So next time you think doing house chores is more pressing than Bible reading, check yourself. That's why you have a daily schedule, and routine to keep you disciplined, and to ensure distractions don't take over your life.
