Mistakes: Ok to Make in a Training Environment

I saw this really great quote on a Pinterest meme and I thought I'd share it with you, and my thoughts on making mistakes in life. So here's the quote: In school you get the lesson first, then the test. In life, you get the test first and then the lesson. What a great saying. So true, and something as leaders we need to be cognizant of.

So, I know all of you reading this are faithful readers, and have read and committed this blog to memory, so you remember me saying I've made a lot of mistakes in my life. And those mistakes have consequences. With effects that go into the length of years. So if you're still in the nest, it's ok to make some mistakes in a place where those consequences won't run so deep, or so long.

It's like going to the range to shoot. The more you do the better you get. And if you miss there, it's not a big deal. But if you miss in real life, when your life depends on it; you may not get a second chance. That is why training is so important. We practice driving before we get the license, we train with our firearms before we go out into the world with them. We work out before we compete. These are all the times you want to make a mistake, and fix it. When you're on the floor of the Olympics or something is not the time to figure things out, or try new things. Right?

Now, you're going to make mistakes/get tested in life. and you're going to get the lesson. So practice the big things in a training environment, and spend the time thinking through the big things, and you should be fine getting through the small things.
