In October 2018, two girls were arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit first degree murder. The girls are aged 11 and 12. Their plan: kill younger students in the school with a knife. Dismember then, canabalize their bodies, and drink their blood before committing suicide. The reason, to be closer to satan in hell.
No, I’m not making this up. Likewise, back in 2013, two 12 year-old girls were charged with attempted murder after luring a friend out into the woods and stabbing her 19 times. The girl lived. She crawled to help. The reason: to offer a sacrifice to Slender Man. A fabricated demon, created on the internet. The girls thought that if they offered a sacrifice that the demon would manifest itself. Needless to say it did not, and the girls are in jail. It is to be noted, that one of the girls parents were apparently into the macabre as well.
These two instances give us insight into what demonic influence can have on a person. I don’t believe it was media alone or an over active imagination that led these girls to this evil. It does however highlight how the dark forces that exist can use dark media and entertainment to influence the minds of people, both children and adults. What we take in, does have an influence on both our minds, and our spiritual well-being.
My daughter goes to school with children who also have an active interest in the occult, witchcraft and other things not of God. Now that she has been saved by God, it is more apparent to her than ever. She sees the difference in herself, and those around her. I’ve tried explaining over the years the negative effects of dark media, and how as Christians we 1.) shouldn’t have an interest in such things, and 2.) it’s like junk food for the brain and spirit; nothing good will come of it. I think she’s really starting to understand.
It is my hope in writing this, that it inspires other parent’s to take a stand and be the Godly influence they are called to be to their children. The dark music, television, and movies that are constantly in production really do matter. It is not completely harmless. And without a solid foundation in God, and the word, things like the above instances cannot come completely as a surprise. The Bible says we need to be sober, and alert; that satan is prowling around like a lion, seeking to devour who he can (1 Peter, 5:8). Satan certainly devoured these girls who are now sitting in prison and only God can save their souls.
